Never felt male attention or true love: how to accept it and overcome frustration?

Perhaps my question will seem ridiculous or inappropriate to some during the war, so please do not judge me. Here is the matter. I have never been attractive to the opposite sex—men never approached me to get acquainted, I do not know what courtship feels like, and I have never seen admiration or passion in a man's eyes. There was a period when I even considered this a positive thing, feeling safer than my female friends and acquaintances.

I have been married twice; one marriage fell apart, and the other is hanging by a thread, and neither of these relationships started with being in love. And now, as I am no longer young—whether as part of a midlife crisis or against the backdrop of a ruined relationship with my current husband—it has become especially bitter and painful that I have never known true love and attention, and now I never will, even if I get a divorce. I believe it's called frustration when you cannot get what you desire?... What should I do? How can I accept this and process it?

Hello! How many times in life does true love actually occur? Ten, five, three, two, or just once? Not teenage infatuation, but true love.

Yes, true love—the kind that brings inner peace, deep trust, and unwavering support, rather than constant drama or suffering. True love is a mature feeling, built on accepting a person exactly as they are. It’s only in mature adulthood that a person is truly ready for such love. So life isn’t over. In fact, it’s only just beginning.

Tanya, good evening!

An attractive appearance is not a guarantee of true love. Yes, people meet beautiful women and fall in love with them more often. But how the relationship develops further depends not on appearance. Beauty usually becomes familiar over time, and it no longer evokes the same admiration as at the beginning of the relationship.

Much more important are emotional closeness, mutual respect, the ability to support each other, trust, and shared values. It is these qualities that help people stay together for years.

By the way, many women build warm relationships in which they are loved after the age of forty, fifty, or later. But if a person believes she is uninteresting or unattractive, it becomes much harder for her to start such relationships.

That’s why it’s important to ask: where did the belief that you’re unattractive come from?

If this conviction strongly affects your self-esteem and personal life, it’s worth working on it with a psychologist. Everything depends on how you perceive yourself. When this inner feeling changes, it often changes how others see you as well.

Perhaps the issue isn’t so much about your appearance as it is about how you feel in relationships with men.
