Narrative Therapy. Explained in simpler terms.
Ukrainian therapists describe how narrative therapy works.
Narrative approach (narrative – from the English “narration”, “narrating” or “text”, “story”) is a modern trend in counseling and psychotherapy. To put it simply, humanly, then one can imagine that a person comprehends and builds his life path on the basis of stories that he tells to someone, of course, to himself. Those stories that are presented and “told” in dialogue with a psychotherapist are called narratives.

But the process of narrative psychotherapy itself goes something like this: the client tells the psychotherapist stories from his life - past and present, where the participants are his close or distant relatives, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. Then the client and the psychotherapist jointly discuss these stories, more or less in less detail, with a greater or lesser degree of participation from both interlocutors. As a result, the client gradually comprehends and processes his personal story, and as a result, a new vision of it appears - not only intellectually, but also emotionally. Thus, a person comes to a more holistic and positive, optimistic perception of his life and himself.![]()
